Insecurity is present in almost all societies and it is important to know how to defend oneself even when the individual does not have any weapons. It has been noted that the hands can be a very powerful tool and the reason why individuals should engage in hand to hand combat training or technique for defense purposes. There are martial arts DVD and self defense DVDs available for this.

Learning Martial Arts should be quick and simple, but some martial art instructors would have you believe that it takes years and decades. And, here is the unfortunate truth, it is these same martial arts instructors that are making it difficult to learn. Most sensei, you see, teach using the most inefficient method in the world.

Tai Chi Chuan builds a different body that is termed an energy body. This is true for Yang Tai Chi Chuan, Chen Tai Chi Chuan, or whatever type of Taiji you study. This is assuming you are following certain guidelines having to do with the energy anatomy.

To learn the martial arts you need to learn three distinct things. You will find these things in every legitimate martial art. If you don’t, then the fighting discipline you are studying may not be a real art.

I’m going to put a whole bunch of stuff together here, but it’s the straight goods. Stay with me, work your way through it, and you’ll be able to fix your body using the martial arts, and this means virtually any art. Karate, kung fu, taekwondo, aikido, kenpo, any art, and I recommend looking into a discipline such as Yoga.

The following phrase has amazing importance for a True Martial Artist. “There are five trees in paradise and they do not change, sumer nor fall, and their leaves don’t drop. Whoever understands these trees will not die.”

It doesn’t matter which art you study, Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo or whatever, you must be able to perceive the thought behind any attack. I have written about this subject since my first articles in the martial arts magazines over thirty years ago. I find it weird that nobody else writes about it.

You know, the martial art of Karate sometimes gets a bad rap. You see all the UFC guys knocking the stuffings out of their opponents, and you wonder why, if Karate is so darned good, you don’t see it in the octagon. The problem, to be honest, lies with Classical Karate training methods.

The name of the Filipino sword and dagger technique is “espada y daga”, which is sometimes also practiced with a stick and dagger instead of a sword and dagger combination. It is one of the more advanced techniques taught in escrima, and is very effective once the user is able to close the distance and enter the vulnerable zone of the opponent. At such close range the technique becomes almost unstoppable.

I’ve been interested in the Ray Floro fighting system for several years now, after first seeing their short Youtube video, “The Seven Vital Truths of Edged Weapons”. But it’s only now that I got to finally download their video course. I was skeptical at first, but after watching I’ve turned into a kind of believer. I’ve been practicing escrima for more than six years and have already earned my third-degree black belt, but if I were really honest I’d say not all my knife fighting skills will work in a real life fight. Ray Floro gives some of the simplest and most effective techniques guaranteed to work in real life, and he’s stripped away all those elaborate, showy moves.

When it comes down to down and dirty self defense, a hard fist is especially desired. Of course, what training method does one use to get a fist hard enough to make for a powerful punch? The answer is through the use of good, solid Karate training.

The Aikido Techniques of Morihei Ueshiba are sometimes accused of being too soft for real combat. Such a statement merely shows that a person doesn’t know the nasty tricks underneath this wonderful art. One should remember, however, that this art is derived from Aikijujitsu, which art was taken directly from the battlefield some thousands years ago.

I saw an interesting program today, a couple of fellows were talking about faster reaction time through classical martial arts training. The odd thing is that they were carrying on about muscle memory. They claimed that you train the body to react so fast that there is no reaction time.

Many people think that True Martial Arts Power comes from big muscles. Unfortunately, they aren’t completely right. To fully understand the power we are talking about here we must change our basic concept of what a muscle is and does.

When we consider the best martial arts forms we are speaking of those martial arts kata that result in a the most benefit to the student. To be honest, I usually recommend learning as many kata as possible, then working on the ones that the student prefers, although there can be oddities in this approach. I also hold that one should learn whole arts, first taekwondo, then karate, then kung fu, and so on.

Eight forms is all you need to learn to get to a Martial Arts Black Belt, and this is in karate, or taekwondo, or kenpo, or even the many kung fu systems and other fighting arts. Of course the forms must be the right size and quality to be effective. A good example of this is presented by Karate, which came from Kung Fu, and is the basis for both Kenpo and Taekwondo.
